GRA Championships 2007 Final Video
on: Today at 01:52:32 AM

Dear AutoXers,

This is our tribute video to all members of GRA that have kept our spirits alive by supporting us all the way since we started on Nov 20, 2005. Thanks to so many people that have helped us achieve what we set out to do a few years ago with Ronald Sutardja, Rebecca, Lim Gian Keong and BFGOODRICH TIRES . Thanks for spearheading us to the skies and now into a dream which we never thought we could achieve. Thanking all our partners, Howard Goh of Red Line, Matthew, Johan & Esther of Meguair's, Mandy & Angela of MPT Additives, Kylie of CinemaOnline, Donald of Jada Toys, Nicholas of Ecoprime. A big hand for believing in us for doing the impossible.

We are taking GRA to bigger heights now, and our hearts will always lie in the people that helped us achieve what we all planned together. Thanks to all our volunteers and friends, you all know who you are.

With unity comes success, with dreams comes realities.

Look out for more years to come with GRA. Near of far, we will never forget the first ever AutoX in KLCC, where Mr.Ronald himself of BFG took the brave step to get into the Big Red Chicken Wing of DarkHelmet. Ivan Khong aka 'DarkHelmet' became GRA's first ever champion in our very first AutoX Championships and first ever event to be held on the streets of Putrajaya in 2007. Thanks for making history wit us.

Well Done Everybody. The video says the things that has been the most memorable moments of our GRA dream.

" We come a long, but we're not too such where we will be, we had success, we had good times,
But remember this,
" Never forget where you coming from, never pretend that its so real, this would all be someone else's dream ".

Listen to the rylics, as it brings the meaning, on how far we have travelled, and how me and jiannin pulled off the greatest feat of all time with the BFG Team, RS and GK! Thanks!

We hope for more....look out for more in 2008!

We live among it's people now, hiding in plain sight, but watching over them in secret, waiting ... protecting ... Spent last Sunday afternoon with Janet at Cineleisure Damansara for the ComiWorld 2007 Animax Cosplay Competition.

I don't have much knowledge about "cosplay" except whatever I can get hold of from the
internet and friends like Firn and Kenjiroo.

Managed to take photo with some of them. They are really a bunch of friendly folks!

To summarize, the finalists are called up on stage and a set of items are laid out in front of them. Individually, each contestant will have to perform a conv
incing (as per the character they play) act with 2 items, chosen by the judges (3 of them). After each contestant has their chance to perform, they will undergo a round of interview by the 3 judges. Most of the
questions are "background checks" with some role-playing questions thrown in as well; i believe these are to test the contestants familiarity and comfort level with the characters they play.

Blog EntryBon Odori 2007 - a volunteer's perspective!Jul 15, '07 7:50 PM
for everyone

Janet & myself decided to volunteer at the Bon Odori festival this year under Cheng Ni's group.

We arrived at Panasonic Sports Complex around 2:30pm and parked right inside, beside the tennis courts - i think.

We met up with Cheng Ni, Cheng Yi and Cadry and proceed to report ourselves in to Amy & Steven (our leads). Later Carmen, and a few other volunteers arrived.

Around 3:30pm, we had our Bento (lunch? dinner? ??) before getting our "assignments". Our group is assigned to distribute Uchiwa to guests. Due to limited amount
of uchiwa, we were to only give 1 to each guest. The uchiwa's have a standard front; which is the Bon Odori 2007 logo. The other side is designed according to the sponsoring company. Among the companies were, Toyota, Honda, Sushi-King, Perodua, etc...

By 4:30pm, we have finished arranging the uchiwa bases at both Front and back entrances. By this time, a lot of participants (performers, helpers, etc) and guest have arrived and are waiting near our Uchiwa bases.

Most of the early birds were there to avoid the crowd and rush. One other important factor is parking - there are not much right outside the complex. If you arrive
late; you need to prepare yourself for a very very long walk. Another advantage of being an early bird is being able to check out a lot of the activities and food stalls around the place before things get extremely busy and at times, chaotic!

Around 5pm, the guests were allowed into the complex and our uchiwa distribution project begins!

A few points to note:
1. Generally, the crowd were friendly and civilised; but some were very "aggressive" - grabbing more than 1
uchiwa without any respect for the volunteers or other guests.
2. There were a huge variety of guest - as young as newborns to great grandparents!
3. Attire are another very interesting mix - we have Japanese and non-Japanese dressed up in traditional & modern costumes! Some are very unique, but most are very CUTE!
4. Crowd handling - can be better as out of 4 entrances (defined by pillars), most guests were squeezing thru only 1!

We did this until around 8:30pm. During that time, I managed to take some photos of the arriving guests, food stalls and the main stage area. There were a lot of other photographers around, especially during the main dance event! Lighting was challenging -
extremely dark (most of the dance area) to extremely bright (spot lights).

After we finished distributing the uchiwa, our group managed to walk around the complex. We tried to buy food but the crowd was too big!

At around 9:30pm, the event was finishing and we started to leave. We travelled a short distance to a mamak near the Petronas station and had
our "dinner".

Notes: Not much photos and creativity because my main objective was volunteering and photography was secondary. Please do leave some comments and links, especially in regards to Bon Odori 2007. Would love to see some other photographer and volunteers' photo and stories!

Blog EntryMotoring fun - Sepang Track DayJul 1, '07 10:55 PM
for everyone
Saw a lot of Singapore registered cars having a track day at Sepang track last weekend. While taking photos of the "fun", I thought to myself, why are there no Malaysia registered cars on track?

Well, a few things came into mind...
1. Expensive to buy those nice cars - government policy
2. Expensive to maintain those nice cars - same as #1
3. Expensive track charges - international price perhaps? Not meant for majority of Malaysians to enjoy motorsports unlike other countries...
4. etc

I feel sad...

Finally finished loading all my media from last weekend's assignment (personal).

A bunch of us from the Photography Club were on our annual pilgrimage to Sepang for the Super GT Championship (Round 4). Our "leader", Dennis Woo gave us a plan where we will cover 2 days worth of event.

Day 1
We arrived during the qualifying session on Saturday (23/6/07) and went straight to "business". : )

Managed to shoot a couple of pan-shots; no flames this year! They are tough to catch! I like the activities at the pits (garage) as well. The engineers and team members show much dedication to their duties! <salute!>

At around 1pm, we lined up and joined the "Pit Walk". As we only had 45 minutes for this, the situation was tense and there's a sense of "rush" all the time. Funny thing was, we were too early - the garages were not ready for us yet and we "wasted" a couple of minutes before the racing queens showed up.

Nonetheless, I had a great time! The queens were very friendly and professional. Most of them pose well and gave each and every photographer some "personal time" to get their shots. <kudos!> As Dennis mentioned before, SuperGT Queens are the best way to get introduced into Portrait Photography - these ladies sure know how to pose and show their best side!

After the "Pit Walk", most of us decided to go off early. From past years, we have learned NOT to drain our energy too early in the event. Some of us stayed back to cover other motorsports event that were held.

Day 2
Arrived slightly later than yesterday; already the whole Sepang track area is BUSY. Buses here and there, car parks were full and most people have to walk at least 1km to the grandstand! It's especially tiring if you're carrying equipment and "rush" - late late late!

I missed the warm-up session and decided to meet up with the rest of the gang. We consolidated our 4R prints in order to ensure higher success rate in getting the queen's signatures during Pit Walk.

Pit Walk was crazy! The amount of people were tripled! Sunday is NOT a day you can get good portraits done easily. Fortunately, most of us were only after the queens signatures! I love the look in the queens' eyes when they see their photos from the previous day; most will be happy to autograph the photos, but there are some queens which were stopped from doing this by their managers! I don't understand why... <angry!>

Later in the day, a few of us joined the starting grid formation event. This is something I'll never forget!

Drivers and engineers were busy putting finishing touches to their machines while the queens were busy posing and answering questions from the media - Japanese journalist mostly! Ha ha ha, me no speak er no Japanese... sorry.

I must say that the starting grid formation event (albeit only 20 minutes) is the HIGHLIGHT of the whole 2 days! I really appreciate the chance to cover this.

Went home early to avoid the post-race mad-rush!
Grateful to all my friends for their help and taking photos of us photogs!
